Phenomenal YOU – How to Magnify Your Happiness
Warning: This exercise may change your life J
Your happiness is a practice.
We are encouraged to be responsible for many things, be good parents, be good friends, take care of our homes, take care of our bodies and take our finances. But rarely are we encouraged to be responsible for our happiness. This for many is a random experience of pot luck based on what is going on outside. Is the weather great? Have I lost weight? Did the check come through? Did my husband do the lawns? You do know what I am talking about, right?
Our Happiness is our responsibly, and you have to make it a daily practice, because if you don’t your happiness muscle will get weak. If you are not intentional about your emotions then you will end up reacting to whatever shows up. This will be great if everything in your life is great but what if you are faced with challenges and you are not intentional about what emotions you would like to experience. What happens then, do you end up like the millions of drug addicted people who are looking for something external to fix their emotion. Your drug might be alcohol, it may be work, it may be shopping or sex, or just about anything else that will take you out of your pain into something (even if it is for just a moment) that feels better than the pain you were experiencing.
This will never bring you long term happiness, ever!! This is the quick fix.
You are always training your emotional muscles, it’s just which ones? You may be over- training. You may be experiencing lots of pain, sadness, grief, anger, pessimism and it is taking you down a road of complete unhappiness. So how do you turn it around?
How do you find happiness when life has been so hard, when people have treated so badly when you have done everything to make it right and it didn’t turn out the way you liked! How are you supposed to feel happiness then? HOW???!!!
Ok I get it! PAIN in inevitable, emotional pain is simply a part of life. Pain is when your life conditions do not match your life expectations. When what you dreamed, imagined or worked so damn hard to get did not work out. Life did not give you what you wanted maybe even what you deserved!!! It did not turn out the way you dreamed of.
How often does this happen? For many of us this happens often, even daily! So what? What then? Give up? No! Find the gift!
That’s it, find the gift and look for the things which would have never have shown up, never been experienced, never have developed if life turned out the way YOU planned. Look at the new friendships, opportunities, insights, and experiences you got as a result of life not working out. There is always a gift if you look for it.
So here is an exercise to increase your happiness:
Think about or imagine something that makes you happy.
As you imagine this thing, create a feeling of happiness in your body and magnify it!
Grow this feeling in such a way that it feels like you are going to explode with happiness.
For those of you that are having a really hard time with this do your best.
Each time you repeat this exercise you happiness muscle will grow.
The feeling will intensify and get stronger to a point where it will be so easy to just feel happy.
I encourage you do this exercise for 30secs each time you practice it, feel the difference and notice
just how much influence you can have over your emotions if you choose.
Now set your phone alarm to buzz every hour for the next 24hours and each time that phone buzzes
I want you to stop, be mindful of what you are doing and intensify a feeling of happiness within you.
The compounding effect of this exercise repeated hourly is magical! I don’t need to tell you, if you
choose to do this, you will be telling me. Now after you have done this for one day I would like you
to repeat this for the next 2 days. After day three you can decide whether you want to go back to
living the way you were before implementing this practice or continue what you have learnt. What
you will find is not only will your wellbeing explode beyond what you can imagine but you will also
begin to attract some seriously wonderful things in your life. So go ahead the blessing is not in
reading this article but actually making this and hourly practice.
